Aluminium sliding patio doors: choosing a 2, 3, 4 pane or triple-track layout

Two-pane aluminium sliding patio door

Choosing an aluminium sliding patio door starts with the layout of the opening, not the colour. Swift Aluminium currently offers two-pane, three-pane, four-pane and triple-track aluminium patio doors made to measure. This guide helps you narrow those options before you enter sizes or place an order.

What changes when you choose more panes?

A pane is a glazed door section. More panes divide the overall opening into more sections, changing the sightlines and the possible arrangement of moving panels. The number alone does not tell you how wide the clear opening will be: that depends on the exact configuration and dimensions. Ask your installer to confirm the proposed arrangement against the opening you have.

Two-pane layout

Start with the two-pane aluminium sliding patio door if you want to compare a simpler division of the opening. Its configurator asks for the outside frame width and height, the sliding master door viewed from outside, and whether both doors should slide. Check those selections against the way you want to use the patio.

Three-pane layout

The three-pane option divides the width into three glazed sections. Its ordering form asks you to choose a left- or right-hand sliding master door as viewed from outside. Before ordering, confirm which sections move and how much clear space the selected arrangement will provide.

Four-pane layout

The four-pane door is another option for a wide opening. Compare the appearance of four sections with the three-pane design, then confirm the actual sliding arrangement and usable opening for your chosen size. The product form also asks for the externally viewed sliding master door.

Triple-track layout

Swift also lists a separate triple-track aluminium sliding patio door. A track choice concerns the way the panels are arranged and slide, so do not assume it works like a standard three-pane layout. Check the product drawing and ask Swift or your installer to confirm the panel movement and clear opening for your measured size.

Five checks before you configure a door

  1. Measure the outside frame opening. Have your installer confirm the width and height to enter. Swift’s forms ask for millimetres and say to include the cill in the overall height.
  2. Decide where the opening should be. Look at the room and patio from outside before choosing a left- or right-hand sliding master door.
  3. Compare the sightlines. Think about where vertical frame divisions will fall in the view and how they relate to furniture, steps and access.
  4. Choose the finish deliberately. The product forms show external colour choices including anthracite grey, black, white and custom RAL, with an internal colour selection. Review the actual options on the chosen product before ordering.
  5. Confirm cill and handle choices. The forms include several cill options and handle colours. Check the threshold and installation detail with your installer before selecting them.

Which layout should you shortlist?

Use the aluminium sliding patio doors range to compare the four product drawings side by side. Shortlist the layouts that suit your measured opening and preferred sightlines, then confirm the exact moving panels, clear opening and cill detail before paying.
